Director's Welcome
Dear ,
As Director of the Environmental Futures Centre (EFC), I am very pleased to welcome you to the second issue of the EFC Newsletter for 2010. I also encourage you to
interact with the EFC members, staff and students for securing the future of our common living environments at both local and global scales.
Since the first issue of the EFC Newsletter published in March 2010, we have been quite fortunate to successfully recruit two excellent Administrative Coordinators. Ms Dianna Woods and Ms Dian Riseley, who have worked with us since May 2010, are based at the EFC Offices on the Gold Coast and Nathan campuses, respectively.
The first EFC Retreat at Couran Cove Resort, South Stradbroke Island was held on 10-11 June 2010. The Retreat proved to be a very successful networking and collaborative event, with about 90 participants of EFC Advisory Board members, staff, students, invited guests and visitors. The two-day open forum generated some lively discussions, we learnt a lot about the research our colleagues are doing and also raised issues regarding the strategic direction of the Centre.
I am pleased to note that the EFC memberships and student numbers have continued to increase in the past 6 months and currently we have over 40 full research members, 15 visiting fellows and more than 50 RHD students. I would like to officially welcome all new members that have joined the Centre in recent months.
As shown in this EFC Newsletter, there have been a lot of exciting events and developments during this period. I look forward to sharing more exciting news and developments of EFC in the coming months of 2010 and beyond.
Kindest regards,
Professor Zhihong Xu
